Zouk DJ

DJ Amigo Zouk

When it comes to dancing, music is everything.  Aside from having a good sound system, the DJ is key.  In today's world, there are many different ways to mix music.

In 2017, I had the pleasure of listening to DJ Amigo's set.  DJ Mafie Zouker met him in Russia and recommended to the promoter that he should book him.  Good thing he did because this one of the best, if not the best set of the entire weekend.  While dancing to his set, I got chills throughout my body.  His transitions were flawless and track selection impeccable.  He took me through a journey like no other.

The set was nothing like I had ever heard.  It was a mix of trap, electronic, future bass, down tempo, all mixed in with traditional kizomba/zouk beats.  How does a DJ create such a unique set?  One word: Ableton Live.  This DAW or Digital Audio Workstation, allows DJs to pre-plan their sets and not just mix two tracks together - rather, they are able to mix multiple tracks, along with beats/stems, and use effects all at the same time.  It's truly another level of mixing.

While mixing three tracks together is cool and creates a different sound.   Ultimately, there are limitations and is very difficult to achieve track after track.  You definitely need to know what you're doing if you're trying to mix three tracks throughout your set (or even two tracks with beats or parts from a third track).   Ableton live relieves the pressure and allows you to take your set to another level.

In case you're wondering, Mafie Zouker also uses Ableton Live along with Lord Feifer.  These are are the only DJs in the scene that I know of that currently use this program.
